If you own a vessel up to 24 meters load line length (or under 150 registered tonnes) and you wish to use your vessel for charter or commercial use one of the things you will require is an MCA Compliance examination.

United Kingdom and certain other 'Red Flag State' vessels carrying people and / or cargo should be certificated under The Merchant Shipping (Vessels in Commercial Use for Sport or Pleasure) Regulations 1993. The system is regulated by the MCA - the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, part of the UK Dept of Transport, Local Government and the Regions.

There are five Codes of Practice, each setting out the standards required for various types of vessel operations. We deal with the following:

• The Motor Vessel Code for vessels up to 24m loadline length (the Yellow Code).
• The Sailing Vessel Code for vessels up to 24m loadline length (the Blue Code).
• The harmonised code soon expected to become law.

We examine the vessel and her equipment as presented to us on the SCV 2 form. Advice and help is available on any unclear items at the time of the examination.
