Credentials Jayson Sibley was raised within a small commercial fishing community in the United Kingdom. As a direct result of this, he gained the required 'hands on' experience, and has been involved in yacht and small craft construction, and repairs from his early teens. After leaving school he was a student at South Tyneside Nautical College and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies where he studied under regulations set by the Department of Transport and the MNTB. He attained the RYA / Dot Yachtmaster Ocean Commercial Certificate at an early age and continued to gain further academic achievement which includes a Diploma in Yacht and Small Craft Surveying with Merit. Jayson was the first European member of the International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI) to sit and pass the Certified Marine Investigator Examination in Belgium. Professional recognition of his expertise has been recognised and he has attained Associate Membership of the Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association (YDSA), one of the highest regarded memberships in the industry. To achieve this level of membership his expertise and survey reports have been fully vetted by the committee. Additional academic achievement includes the Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate and a Masters Degree in Yacht Claims. This background coupled with a love for sailing and restoring small craft (including several personally rebuilt vessels) developed Jayson Sibley's exemplary standards of repairs and the required integrity and professionalism for yacht surveying and marine loss adjusting. This requires far more than theoretical knowledge of construction and repair. A firm practical knowledge of materials, their properties and applications is essential, which should be supported by a thorough understanding of marine insurance law, acts of parliament and the international yacht clauses. There is no substitute for sound theoretical knowledge backed by over 20 years boat building and repairing experience. Jayson Sibley is the author of the Yacht Claims Handbook and numerous technical articles published in sailing magazines and association newsletters. We are also associate members of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA).
